Suomenlinna


Hi, I’m Risa Shirai. I’ll talk about the history of Suomenlinna.
In 1748, Sweden=Finland built Sumenlinna to protect from the Russian Empire. It took forty years to finish. In those days, it was named Sveaborg Viapori.
In 1808, Finland war broke out Finland . Russia had occupied Finland for 110 years.
In 1855, during the Crimean War, the fortress was attacked by France and England. But they couldn’t occupy it.
In 1918, Finland became independent from the Russian Empire because of the Russian Revolution. And Sveaborg Viapori changed its name to the fortress of Suomenlinna.
